Menorah Lightings And Services To Celebrate Hanukkah

Posted

Observed with a nightly menorah lighting, prayers and special foods, the eight-day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah begins this year on the eve of December 14 and concludes on December 22. This “festival of lights” commemorates the rededication of the temple in Jerusalem.

The local Jewish community will celebrate with a Parade of Light on Sunday, December 14, that will arrive at City Dock in Annapolis around 5:45pm. Hosted by the Chabad of Anne Arundel County, which is led by Rabbi Nochum Light, the event will include kindling a large menorah and offer latkes, donuts and warm beverages. The Parade of Light is free and open to all, though RSVPs are requested in advance at www.chabadaac.com/chanukahparade.

In Arnold, Temple Beth Shalom will hold a Hanukkah bazaar on Sunday, December 7, from 9:00am-1:00pm and Monday, December 8, from 9:00am-11:00am. Rabbi Ari Goldstein will host an Origins of Hanukkah program on December 14 at 10:00am, and on Friday, December 19, congregants are encouraged to bring a menorah for the 7:00pm Shabbat Zimra Hanukkah service.
