Plant Podcaster To Visit Severna Park

Author and podcaster Maria Failla, also known as “Happy Plant Lady,” will visit Homestead Gardens Severna Park for consultations and a houseplant shop-along on Friday, September 6.

Host of the “Growing Joy with Plants” podcast, Failla specializes in helping gardeners determine what plants are best for them based on their style, space and time.

“I’ve heard about Homestead Gardens and its incredible stores for years now, and when they approached me about this partnership, it was a pinch-me moment,” Failla said.

Participants are encouraged to take Failla’s plant parent personality quiz in advance and book their time slot based on their plant parenting style.

“Quite often, customers come to our store because they want a very specific plant because they’ve seen it, or friends own it, or they’ve seen it on the internet, but that’s not always the right plant for you,” said Aimee Miskimon, manager of Homestead Gardens Severna Park. “Your lighting situation, your dedication level, your knowledge level, all of those things come into play.”

Homestead’s Houseplant Haven is currently set up according to Failla’s plant owner types: curious collector, design based, low maintenance, mindful and urban farmer.

Miskimon and other Homestead Gardens team members crossed paths with Failla at a tropical plants exposition in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, earlier this year. That chance meeting culminated in this event.

“We’re very excited about this,” Miskimon said.
