St. Andrews Caps Swim Season

St. Andrews Swim and Tennis Club had a record summer in 2021. With its biggest swim team ever, comprised of 149 swimmers (68 of them ages 8 and under), St. Andrews went 3-1.

Not only was it a stellar year with participation but also with team performances. The 11-12 boys broke a 21-year-old record in the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:12:00. Court Barrett, Charlie Dyke, Finn Luhta and Caden Mahl formed the record-setting team.

Also this season, Galen Richardson won the Luke Moran Award.

“Luke Moran was a dynamic young man who grew up at St. Andrews, lifeguarded, swam and coached,” said St. Andrews swim coach Maura Bayly. “He passed away two years ago after courageously battling a long illness. Luke fostered an environment of kindness, acceptance, empathy and love for the members of St. Andrews. St. Andrews swim team honors his name and legacy with this award.”

Galen competes in the 15-18 age group, one in which St. Andrews needed swimmers.

“Galen will swim anything I put him in,” Bayly said. “He came to every practice, came back from vacation early to swim in a meet, cheers teammates on, and never complains. He’s not the strongest swimmer, but he tries so hard and is loyal to the team. And he just really stood out.”
