Sunrise Senior Living Offers A Comfortable Home For The Golden Years

Posted

In 1981, Paul and Terry Klaassen began imagining a community built from the ground up to meet their new philosophy of care. Starting with the understanding that a high quality of life is only possible in environments that people find warm, nurturing, comfortable and welcoming, they found inspiration from restaurants and fine inns, small European hotels and single-family homes. The first Sunrise opened in 1987, offering a nursing home facility that resembled not a hospital but a home.

Sunrise of Severna Park opened in 1997. The location, nestled on 10 beautiful acres in the heart of Severna Park, offers convenient proximity to the Severna Park Community Center, the Severna Park Library, and many restaurants and shops, all within walking distance. Because Sunrise offers a great community for residents and team members alike, many of its staff has been there for years.

Residents and visitors will notice immediately the Sunrise Signature Experience: No one champions the quality of life for seniors as Sunrise does. Sunrise creates relationship–based care from a team of serving hearts who offer peace of mind and celebrate the joy of every day by enriching mind, body and spirit with all of the comforts of home. The home’s community dog, Buddy, will even greet visitors when they walk in the front door.

The team at Sunrise enjoys the Severna Park area because of the events that it is able to share with community members, such as the annual Fourth of July Parade, which employees and residents can enjoy right from the Sunrise property. In addition, Sunrise residents and team members can get exercise right on the home’s grounds, or take a stroll on the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail, which is right around the corner. The team enjoys outings with residents to activities around town, such as nearby outdoor concerts in the warm weather. They also appreciate the opportunity to have the children from the local schools visit for singing and fun.

Severna Park is the ideal area for Sunrise Senior Living because many of its residents have spent their lives here and wish to continue enjoying the benefits of their beloved town while living in a beautiful home with a caring staff, good friends and countless activities. Those residents who join Sunrise from out of town are always pleased with the amenities that the location has to offer.

Sunrise is a top fundraiser every year for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising close to $10,000 in 2013 alone. Sunrise holds an annual yard sale, raffles throughout the year and resident-led fundraisers, such as selling of handmade jewelry for Alzheimer’s Association proceeds. Every month, residents make bagged lunches for the Lighthouse Shelter in Annapolis. Residents also make healthy biscuits for local dog shelters.

Recently, Sunrise of Severna Park celebrated a grant reopening with renovations and the addition of a putting green, as well as with new members of the management team. In the years to come, the leaders of Sunrise will continue to provide the highest quality of care to serve their residents, families and the community of Severna Park.

Sunrise is located at 43 West McKinsey Road. For more information, contact Joie Stapleton or Berry Sprague by calling 410-544-7200, or visit www.sunrisesevernapark.com.
