Severna Park’s softball team battled back from deficits twice to beat Glen Burnie in the region championship, 6-5, on Wednesday.

The game got off to a fast start with Glen Burnie scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Severna Park did not roll over. Savannah Drummond hit a leadoff double and Sally Trent hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 3-2 after one inning.

Both pitchers hurled scoreless innings in the second. In the third inning, Viktoria Dorn walked, giving Trent another runner in scoring position. She delivered another clutch hit, a double that tied the game 3-3.

The teams traded two runs apiece in the fifth, again tying the game, this time at 5-5.

In the seventh inning, with the game tied, Lily Becker singled. Christina Ballagh sacrificed to push Becker to third base. After a Falcons strikeout, Ally Weaver came to the plate, hit a pitch that was misplayed by the Gophers defense, and the Severna Park walked off with a 6-5 win.

A day after her complete game shutout over Old Mill, Ballagh again went seven innings. She surrendered three earned runs. The Gophers had five errors in the game.

Madison Montroy and Ryleeann Gardner led the Glen Burnie offense with two singles each.

Severna Park is scheduled to play at Bowie on Friday at 5:00pm in the state quarterfinals.
