With Undefeated Season, Green Hornets U11 Boys Are Regular Season Champs

The Green Hornets boys U11 (fourth and fifth grade) select lacrosse team won the Anne Arundel County regular season championship. Head Coach Mike Archer said the team came a long way from their first spring practice and showed great effort all season, playing as team, not as individuals.

The team went undefeated with a 6-0-1 season, beating the archrival Arden Diamondbacks 2-1 early in the season, and tying them 1-1 on the last game of the season to secure the championship. Anne Arundel County did not hold playoffs this year due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Brody Pugh was nearly impossible to score on and anchored the defense between the pipes, and fourth-grader Mason Sipe backed him up. The defense was the team’s identity and included Dominic Biello, Leo Sobocinski and CJ Callaway, a fourth-grader. The attack was patient and took care of the ball, and all attackmen contributed to the scoring, including fourth-grader Evan Archer at left attack, and fifth-graders Miles McGuiness, Grant Accinelli and Cole Ramsey. The midfield controlled the ball in every game and was led by Van Lighthizer, who scored key goals in both Diamondback games, and also included speedsters Liam King and Connor Perry, additional fifth-grader middies who also played some defense, Emmett Williams, Ben Greenlee and Evan Catrambone, as well as talented fourth-grade two-way middies Mark Hansbrough and Michael Mihoces.

Assistant coaches included Adam Williams, Dave McGuiness and Jim Lighthizer.
