Green Hornets Capture Peewee A Division Anne Arundel County Lacrosse Title

The Green Hornets third/fourth-grade team wrapped up an undefeated season with the county championship on May 19.

Championship weekend started with a win over Kent Island in the semifinals. On a wet Saturday afternoon, the offense was clicking, led by Patrick Turner scoring five goals and Clyde Baker adding two goals and three assists. Long-stick midfielder Drew Powdrell added another, and Kellen Clay had an assist coming out of the defensive side. Sawyer Hasson, who shined all weekend in goal, had 12 saves and a shutout performance.

In the championship game against the Davidsonville Gators, the Green Hornets defense was the deciding factor. Joey Blanchet, along with goalkeeper Sawyer Hasson, anchored the defense. James Gales, Thomas Lazak and Owen Bergman held the Gators to just two goals. The midfield unit also helped contain and clear the ball.

Scoring in the championship was led by Clyde Baker with a goal and assist. Patrick Turner converted Baker’s fast-break pass to add a second goal. Midfielder JP Burleson played hero of the game, netting the game-winner in the top right corner on an unassisted goal with less than a minute to play in regulation.

The team was coached by Keith Baker, Joel Wotell and Arnold Turner, and managed by Mitchell Baker.

Players included Clyde Baker, Patrick Turner, Wyatt Rubiano, Logan Blair, Joey Blanchet, Owen Bergman, Thomas Lazak, Drew Powdrell, James Gales, Sawyer Hasson, Oliver Groves, Carson Corey, Christian Walen, Frankie Barr, Jack Wotell, Jude Earhart, Kellen Clay and Tommy Jones.
