Indian Creek Names Kaycie Bowen Next Upper School Principal

Kaycie Bowen has accepted the appointment to become Indian Creek School's next upper school principal, effective July 1, 2024.

Bowen joins the ICS faculty from Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, where she has served as assistant principal for the past 15 years - most recently as academic vice principal. Prior to this, she worked as a classroom teacher in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system.

She earned a master's degree in leadership from Notre Dame of Maryland University and a master’s degree in teaching from Bowie State University. She also holds bachelor’s degrees in English and Spanish from the University of Maryland.

A passionate educator, Bowen believes that collaboration, character, and communication create strong leaders and premier schools. She places high priority on creating a culture of mutual trust and respect between students and faculty to create a safe and inclusive environment that allows students to build confidence and challenge themselves.

Bowen's appointment is the culmination of a nationwide search conducted by a committee of ICS faculty, which included over 50 applicants, seven semifinalists, and three candidates who each visited the school, spending time with ICS students, parents, trustees, faculty and staff. She will officially join the ICS leadership team this summer, when the current upper school principal, Eliza McLaren, departs for a new role as head of school at The Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio.

While Bowen has been a part of the ICS community for years as a parent to Katelyn (class of 2029), she is excited to officially join the upper school team.

"I am both grateful and humbled to be an educator at Indian Creek,” she said. “I look forward to being an impactful part of this community of kindness, resilience and academic excellence that I have appreciated for so long."

Head of School Booth Kyle is thrilled to welcome Bowen to ICS as well.

"Kaycie brings a balance to her work - strong leadership experience with faculty, deep knowledge of various high school curricular tracks, and most importantly, an unfailing commitment to students. I am personally grateful to have the opportunity to work with her, and I'm excited for our faculty and students to have her at the Creek."
