Magothy River Sailing Association Turns 50

Posted

The Magothy River Sailing Association (MRSA) celebrated its 50th anniversary in June at Maryland Yacht Club in Pasadena. MRSA was founded in 1974 by members of the 8-foot dinghy El Toro Fleet and has grown to include sponsoring Wednesday night racing on the Magothy River, holding a two-week junior training program with the support of the Grachur Club, supporting an active cruising fleet that includes local and bay-wide destinations and holding numerous social events throughout the year.

The anniversary event was attended by 62 MRSA members, including 20 past commodores. Rich Hughes, a past commodore, cruising director and junior training director, was honored with the Ham Palmer Memorial Award for his numerous years of support of MRSA.

Next up on MRSA’s social calendar is an annual picnic at the Mil-Bur community park in Pasadena on August 3. The picnic will include live music from MRSA’s six string sailor, Larry Turner. Non-members interested in learning more about MRSA are invited to join the picnic and can contact MRSA’s commodore at commodore@magothysailing.org for more details.
