MOM’s Organic Market Opens In Severna Park

A new grocery store has opened its doors in Severna Park, offering health-conscientious shoppers a new option for organic groceries.

Located in the Park Plaza shopping center space formerly occupied by fabric and crafts store JOANN, MOM’s Organic Market celebrated its grand opening the weekend of June 20-22.

The 11,839-square-foot Severna Park grocery store is the chain’s 27th location and 12th in Maryland.

MOM’s Organic Market was founded in 1987 by Scott Nash, then 22 years old, who began the business as a home delivery service out of his mom’s garage. The grocery chain now operates in six states and Washington, D.C.

A defining characteristic of MOM’s is the company’s commitment to stocking a high volume of organic products, including all of its produce, and enforcing progressive standards for products that do not have organic options.

The grocery chain takes pride both in what it does offer and what it does not. Based on MOM’s clean ingredient standards, the store does not carry products that include certain artificial flavorings, artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, artificial preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and more. A complete list of more than 250 banned ingredients can be found on the MOM’s website.

MOM’s purpose is to “protect and restore the environment.” To that end, stores discontinued the use of plastic bags in 2005; removed plastic waste including bottled still water in 2010; provide free car charging at most locations; utilize solar and wind power to offset store energy usage; and offer recycling for items including denim, corks and cellphones.

Shoppers are also encouraged to bring their own containers for bulk items such as nut butters, pastas, rice, spices, herbs, coffees, teas and more.

MOM’s also offers clothing, beauty and personal care items, vitamins and supplements that follow high standards for ingredients and sustainability.
