Severna Park’s Aaron Weibe Returns To Maryland For A Night Of Latin Music At Le Mondo

Posted

Dr. Aaron Weibe, a native of Severna Park and 2004 graduate of Archbishop Spalding High School, will returns to the Baltimore music scene for a March 26 performance at Le Mondo, presented by Club La Sonora. This exclusive event, “Por Siempre, Sylvia,” will feature Weibe performing alongside his wife, Puerto Rican bolero vocalist Maritzaida, as they share the night with renowned bolero ensemble Miramar.

Weibe — a seasoned guitarist, veteran and scholar — has built a career spanning multiple continents. A graduate of Greensboro College, he went on to serve 10 years on active duty as a guitarist for the United States Air Force, including a three-month tour through 10 Middle Eastern countries and three years stationed in Tokyo, Japan, where he performed throughout the Pacific region. Since leaving the Air Force, Weibe has continued to blend his passions for music, education and technology, earning a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. from Liberty University — both in communications. He serves as Interim Director of communications and technology services for the Extension Foundation, teaches guitar at Greensboro College, and lectures in communications at Georgia Military College Online.

As recording artists, Weibe and Maritzaida are signed to SideHustle Records, the label owned by legendary guitarist and producer Charlie Hunter. Together, they have released four critically acclaimed albums, including “Alma Adentro: La Música de Sylvia Rexach y Tutti Umpierre,” which was named one of the Top 20 Most Outstanding Albums of 2024 by the Fundación Nacional para la Cultura Popular de Puerto Rico. Their upcoming fourth album, “Sentimientos En Vivo,” produced by Hunter and featuring New York City-based cellist Zachary Brown, will be released on April 5.

Weibe has been praised for his dedication and meticulous attention to detail in recreating the essence of Puerto Rican guitarist Tutti Umpierre’s guitar playing, decades after Umpierre’s passing. Likewise, Maritzaida is regarded as a torchbearer of Umpierre's musical companion, legendary composer Sylvia Rexach. Collaborating closely with Rexach’s daughter - actress Sharon Riley Rexach - Weibe and Maritzaida have made it their mission to preserve the legacy of Puerto Rico’s música bohemia.

The duo has headlined major events, including the North Carolina Folk Festival, where they were joined by Jose Eduardo on the cuatro puertorriqueño, known for his work on Bad Bunny’s 2025 album.

Le Mondo, an artist-owned performance venue and cultural hub in downtown Baltimore, is the perfect backdrop for this homecoming performance. Club La Sonora, the hosting organization, is dedicated to celebrating live Latin music and fostering cultural connections through sound and movement.
