Archbishop Spalding rising senior defensive back and Severna Park resident Sean Johnson has committed to play college ball at Florida State University. Johnson committed in April after his March visit to the Tallahassee campus.
“It just felt like home,” said Johnson, who toured the Seminole facility with his mom. Johnson, who plays cornerback for the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers, will switch to safety at Florida State. Johnson is now 6 feet, 2 inches tall and 210 pounds, and his size will bode well in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference.
“Sean is one of the most talented players in our football program,” said Spalding head football coach Kyle Schmitt. “His skill set allows him to play all three secondary positions, and his length and size creates challenges for all types of receivers.”
Johnson, who played youth football with the Green Hornets, wants to thank his parents, his prior Green Hornets and current Spalding coaches, and his current and former teammates for helping him achieve this accomplishment of attending a Division I university and continuing to play football. He looks forward to his senior season at Spalding and hopes the Cavaliers can win a fourth consecutive Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship.
